Ready For Takeoff

 Twelve-spotted Skimmer

The pond I visited yesterday was alive with skimmers! This is a male because in addition to the dark brown spots it also has white ones.

Handsome, right?

I am linking to Saturday Critters HERE.

It's fun for me to learn the difference in markings between male and female. Thanks :) Great photo! I noticed a lot of dragonflies in my in-law's garden this past week. They kept bumping into the windows and flying away again.

Dragonflies are wonderful creatures. They are successful in their hunts 85-90 percent making them the single more successful and deadly hunter on the planet. The prey? Often mosquitoes, so I'm delighted to see them around. This seems like a good year for them.

Oh these critters are wonderful when they visit....

The dragonflies I see in my yard have black bands on their wings, I don't know if they are this species or something else. That's a great shot of the wings from above and the black and white spots.

Those are some pretty fabulous shots of the skimmers. I always like learning a bit too about them, you never know when I may impart my new knowledge!
