Red-headed woodpecker
This woody had been working on a hole a little further down the tree, perhaps this year's nesting place. It scuttled up the tree so I wouldn't know where it had been working.
Sitting on a branch wondering when CameraGirl would go away
This tree will be a great spot in a deciduous woods close to a swamp where the woody can find plenty of insects, berries, fruit, seeds, mice, bird eggs...all the goodies it loves to eat.
I am linking to World Bird Wednesday.

he is most definitely watching you.
He definitely wants to get back to work. I can't believe the detail in this photo.

He's so beautiful! I've only seen one once here.

How colourful these birds are! Very striking colours.
I think they are one of the prettiest woodpeckers. Great shots!
He's beautiful. And I'm glad he wasn't able to hide from your camera. Thanks.
Beautiful! We had tons of these guys in our yard back in Mississippi. Nice to see that they're here in Canada too. :)
What a beautiful bird you have got here! :) as the photos also!
I like the red head, what a contrast to the rest of it!
Striking bird shot.
We have woodpeckers here, but not this variety; I've never seen a red-headed one in life. These are great photos!
He is so gorgeous. I haven't seen a red-headed woodpecker forever! We used to see them all the time on the farm in Iowa when I was a kid.

It would be amazing to capture a shot like this! What a gorgeous photo and closeup!
Terrific captures!
My nemesis bird! Although I have seen Red-heads in the past, since taking up photography I keep failing to get a photo. My latest miss was only days ago, but I did get a shot of its hole! Very nice images!
The red headed woodpecker is a beauty!
These are superb shots...what fantastic color...and I love that 2nd shot where it is obviously taking your measure to see if you're a good or bad person and whether it should fly away!
We have a family of red-headed woodpeckers around our house. They sometimes come to the suet feeder and we've lately been seeing a juvenile come as well. We don't have any great pictures like yours, though.
Great woodpecker shot!
no doubt how it got it´s name. :) Great shots. :)
A red headed woodpecker came to the stuff I put out for the oriole...but I could not get near the window without him flying. He came the first evening and did not come back.
