I'm not sure how old this brickwork is but some of the buildings on this street were built at the end of the 1800s and this looks about the same age - not old by world standards but ancient by Canadian ones.

I like theses old (Canadian standards) buildings. The trades men showed off their talent with all the details they put into it.

It's a lovely old building EG, I can relate to the age thing, we're a little short on years here in Perth also :) doesn't stop us appreciating the beautiful architecture we have oui!
Building deserve to be preserved if for the brickwork alone.

That really is beautiful old brickwork! A lot of nice old buildings in southern Ontario date from 1870 to 1900. The downtowns of most rural towns were built then.
So different than what is built around here today although it does remind me of buildings in old Colorado towns, like Leadville.
Re your comment about Xmas decorations: I can understand why they're left up in Canada - it's too darn cold to get out and put them away, but here??? :)

Old brickwork makes great subject matter. Your photos are excellent. Also, the farmer's field in previous post. Getting back to bricks ... They make such a beautiful exterior. I don't see much construction using bricks these days and guess it's the cost ... I hope there is enough work out there to keep the art of bricklaying alive. Wishing you a good week ahead. John

It's lovely to see the time and effort they put into buildings in the old days. That work required very skilled workers who would be difficult to find today!

This is very very fancy brickwork! People used to take such pride in their work. I guess all of that is gone with the wind now. Just build things fast and simple.

I often wonder who could look at these old buildings and then proceed to build the modern looking ones with no character? Yet, I guess they have character for others. Anyway, love these...
Brickwork - especially the old stuff - isn't common in San Francisco where I'm from. It doesn't hold up in earthquakes. But it's so nice to see something that shows so much skill. Most "brickwork" I see these days is a veneer applied to paneling.
