Ring-billed Gulls

Ring-billed gulls

Ring-billed gulls are very common in the Toronto area. They are fairly aggressive gulls and can be found just about anywhere where there's water...or French Fries.  They are excellent scavengers and especially love messy people who leave behind tasty tidbits. You may hate gulls but actually they do us a BIG favour cleaning up after us.

Diving for  Dollars  dinner

But their diets are not limited by what we leave behind.

A tasty invertebrate

Got one!  Sometimes gulls fight with each other over such findings but this day...

Gotta savour this!

food must have been plentiful so the lucky gull was able to eat in peace.

They used to gather under the bridge in Sarnia where we had 3 chip trucks. They were well rewarded for their efforts.

I actually like gulls - I think they're smart and quite funny. Not good for them to eat French fries, though, but of course they do that when they find some. I have seen them fighting over potato chips at the beach.

My cat loved fries too! He also would have liked to try gull if it was available - he was a real hunter at heart!

Beautiful wing spread on the gulls - especially in the third photo. And you offer a great case for giving these shorebirds some respect.

I like the diving shot. I go to a spot in summer where the Gulls hang out and they make wonderful photo props.

we don't get many gulls around here but I have been to a few lakes where they were aggressive enough to fly down and snatch your lunch from your hand while it was on its way to your mouth!

Fabulous shots, I find it so difficult to photograph birds in flight. That is a stunning shot of the dive. Sea gulls are such funny birds to watch. I don't see them much.
