Glossy Ibis

 Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcineellus)

Rarely seen in Ontario, a Glossy Ibis  has been seen for several days in a small, shallow pond wading amongst shrubs foraging for tasty tidbits with it's long curved bill.

Birders

Within minutes of someone sighting it, other birders began arriving to see it and take photos.

Preening and flapping its wings

My husband and I just happened to be in the area so we got to see it too. Serendipity!

Under cloudy skies

Wow! He's a beaut!

Its beak is not as curved as some of the other ibis and it comes really far into its face. I was unable to figure out where the eye was until the last photo. I love the color of the feathers. Such a rich auburn.

Great photos of the Glossy Ibis - that would be a bird well worth seeing!

What a gorgeous bird! I've never seen one of these before either. The iridescent quality of the dark wing feathers gives such a sculpted look. The leaping shot with the wings outspread is fantastically dramatic. I'm wondering what communication system the birders have, do they text each other?

You got some great photographs. Based on your pics of the other birders it looks like they have to be strong to carry those big lens. And wealthy to be able to buy them.

Hi Tina,
Looks like some folks with huge lenses showed up to take photos of this adorable bird. I don't know what lens you use - your photos rock! Well done!!
Have a Beautiful Day!

Nice! Especially the first photo. White ibis(es) are very common in Florida, but I don't recall seeing this darker relation.

What a neat working bird! Great to see the birders taking advantage of the moment.
