The rink 5 years ago, Lake Simcoe
I have been going through some old photos and discovered this photo taken in mid January 2011. Look at that snow and ICE! Right now Lake Simcoe has some ice now but there is no way I would stand on it!
Dad and three kids
Another way to clear the ice
The ice was even thick enough to clear by machine.

Yes, will those times come back this year, here no ice at all too.
No half measures here. And what a nice place to make an ice rink. Size no problem.
You're TRYING to make this Floridian shiver, I know you are!
:)
no rink to clear this year
Time for some ice skating. Looks cold there. Still no snow here yet. Happy Monday, enjoy your new week!
These are strange times. Despite all the extremes with the weather, so far this winter has been contrastingly warmer in my neck of the woods too. Although we don’t usually get much snow we do get a lot of rain … but even that seems to have lessened. We did have a modest earthquake to scare us recently though!
Beautiful real wintry images here !
looks like hard work, but i guess you get to play afterwards. ( :
Great photos.
Looks just we have, except we have snowning more just now.
Children can skate and not have to walk on artificial ice rinks. Regards.
Growing up in Texas and then living most of my adult life in Arizona I never even learned to ice skate. I once saw a bunch of Texans skating on an ice rink which had been built for the Christmas season (if that's what one would call it) and it was like a funny movie!
this has been a warm milder winter for sure. 2011 was the year it got cold here for 2 weeks and killed all our trees...
We're still waiting on the Canal here to be prepped for skaters. It's probably safe to walk on by now, but the warnings have been issued that it's not open for the season yet.
It's a strange winter so far isn't it. We had a lovely almost March-like week last week, heavy rain and 8c last night and a flash freeze today with very cold days this week. The rivers and lakes aren't frozen yet either. Not a great season for snowmobiling, ice skating or sleigh rides! We need snow!!
How fun is that! They are making memories.
It's fun to get pics on the ice. Not sure if there will be any this year although there is quite a bit of cold forecast for the next two weeks.
I have never seen ice in my life
Wish to see

I am so afraid of thin ice. This year we have not had that many days of really cold weather,so I would question the safety of the ice.Others, obviously don't think that way,as they are on the ice doing their ice fishing.
Really amazing images!
Ah, those remind me of the years I lived in Montana!! Actually, I do love the snow -- perhaps because I grew up in west Texas!!! Wonderful captures as always, EG!! I hope you have a beautiful new week!! Enjoy!!
It hasn't been a very hard winter so far, but that's ok by me!
definitely a 'soft' winter for most this year in n. america!
It looks beautiful but I'm hoping we don't get that cold this year!
Very different from your weather this year! xx
I remember growing up in South Dakota, we used to shovel off frozen lakes to go ice skating too. It was so much fun!
Definitely different weather for most of us. We're getting freezing temps, colder that Nova Scotia! Lots of rain and snow. Weirdorama!
I've been amazed, too, looking back at some pictures just from this past winter.
I did not read the date at first....kind of glad this was then and not now. But I bet the kids would prefer this!
They can have ice skating. I'll stick to roller skating. It can be done in warm weather.
Whoa that is so much snow, great pics.
Beautiful shot! I greet! :)
This looks like it was such fun. The pictures are sososo pretty. I think I would choose that last method for moving the snow. Much easier.
"very cool" pun intended....this always makes me so nervous!!!!
This is one of the reasons why we live on the west coast. Nice shots!
Will there be curling?!
I'm sure you don't miss it but I still think it's bad news... Like the magnolia buds here...
It is interesting to look back...Looks like we will both have enough snow.. Plenty of open lake to make snow here...Michelle
I have to say that this is something that I have never thought about--how to clear the snow for a game!!
Impressive images, lots of snow! Lovely memories, I think... We don't have snow, this year, till now. From year to year, the weather become so strange, very warm, more looking like a cold long autumn, some snowflakes, some rains, periods of frost...
But we'll wait for some snow at the end of the week *-*, if the forecast is correct.
Till then greetings in sunny january!
Oh my, you are making this Southern girl shiver! Here on the Texas Gulf Coast, a single flake brings traffic to a complete halt. LOL!!
