Groundhog Day/ Nature Notes

Halfway through winter - officially

Today is groundhog Day and, for sure, we who live in Ontario have at least six more weeks of winter, no matter what Wiarton Willie says. (Willie is an albino groundhog, famous in these parts for predicting when spring will arrive here.)

This is what's happening nature-wise in my neck of the woods. In the largest square, the grey squirrel was chowing down on tree seeds. Moving clockwise: two crows, the tree seeds the squirrel was eating. sumac berries (NOT the poisonous kind), grass plumes, and crab apples.

High Falls/ Watery Wednesday

High Falls on the Genesee River, Rochester, New York

Yep, those ARE icicles you see hanging onto the rocks on both sides of the falls. My sister-in-law wanted to see the falls in winter...and I'm glad she did!

This waterfall is smack dab in the middle of the city. Want proof, then look here....

Train? Did you hear a train?

The flecks you may see in the photo are sleet/snow. It was bitter day but not too cold for my camera!
