O/Alphabe-Thursday

Old building on the south side of the Grand River

O is for OLD

Elora is an old town on the Grand River, rich in history, abandoned buildings and photo ops.  Click HERE to check out an earlier post on the Elora Mill.

This is one of the abandoned buildings on the southerly side of the river.

Grande River, Elora

As you can see in the above photo, the old buildings on the other side of the river are in considerably better shape.

Old buildings, young shoppers

In fact many are tourist attractions.

Remains of a furniture factory on the opposite side of the street

Even the buildings that are only partially there have been dressed up with flowers.

Closer look at  one window box

And beyond the building walls and flower-boxed windows

New shops, older shoppers

...is a courtyard surrounded by shops selling touristy items.

I am linking to Jenny Matlock at Alphabe-Thursday HERE

Well, that's a fascinating place. I like the sky coming in through those windows. It seems to always matter from which side of the tracks (river) from which you come. Or something like that.

Oh I love these shots and I must say I love Elora I have only been once but look forward to getting back now that my daughter lives close.
The old stone on the buildings is fantastic. The older couple make me smile. B

Looks like an interesting place. Great detail in that first photo, I think I can count every brick and each leaf.

It's amazing that something old can still remain beautiful, despite being abandoned (can't really say the same for those post-WWII, brutalist concrete structures!)...I'm sure they will remain so for a long time...

it is a lovely place. I know a few people who have owned some of these shops and it certainly is a popular place.

Looks like a lovely place for a walk!

As for Pariscope, it's the "what's on in Paris" magazine!

I've been to Elora. Can't remember when. My daughter went to Waterloo and I'm sure we trooped around!
Those shoppers are in great shape. I never have been! :-)

Elora got even prettier than I remember.

Your 2 posts make it a certainty that if I ever get back to Ontario to visit my brother in Kitchener, there will be a side trip to Elora!

I love all the ruins!

When will big-assed girls learn not to wear short shorts? (Maybe I'm just jealous ????)

I love when the walls remain and then nature fills in between. Beautiful shots!

How beautiful those old buildings are. I love that even though not in usable condition, they are still dressed up with flowers.

OH! What a lovely and amazing place! I completely love to see old buildings like that, with their remains shining on!

Elora looks beautiful--thank you for sharing. The photo of the young shoppers made me smile--long sleeved hoodies with short-shorts and flipflops. If it's cool enough to wear a hoodie, I'd think it would be too cold for bare legs too--but that's just me!

Of course, all your photos are excellent, but I love the one with the window box best of all.
