On Tire/Wild Bird

Great Blue Heron standing on old tire

This year I have seen many more great blue herons than I have ever seen before. I am sure you have seen many GBHs before...but what about GBHs standing on tires meant to keep boats from hitting a dock?

I'm not sure what this heron was thinking because it let me  get closer and closer. It wasn't until I turned around to walk away that it...

Great blue heron in the air

decided to fly away.

I am joining Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

Well, we don't see any GBHs on this side of the Atlantic so I'm more than happy to see photos of them, especially when they're as splendid as this.

A fun shot. I love how they seem to stretch their legs out sooooo far!

We have a lot of these fine birds, too. They tend to be rather skittish unless they are engrossed in fishing. Love the "in the air" shot. You were quick on the trigger.

Re your question about the Longhorn: No veggie dishes per se. Lois always gets a salad (they are good) and a plain sweet potato. I usually get the salmon which is always excellent!

Nice clicking when he was flight. Just recently I have noticed their presents is beginning to increase in Frenchman's Bay. They are moving south and will remain as long as the food supply is good.

Your captures of the heron are perfect.

They are so unlikely looking. I've noticed several have moved onto sandbars on the Arkansas River here in Tulsa.

I love seeing them here, though I've never been able to get a good shot (hm, maybe one day I'll get a real camera :) - yours are beautiful - love the in-air capture too!

One of my favorites! Beautiful photos! I've seen them stand on some odd things, but not a tire.

I love 'em. We have one 'resident' great blue that we see each and every time we stop at one of our favorite birding trails....

They're so neat to watch as they watch us, aren't they?

Love the photos of the heron!
I'm not sure, but I do not think we have this blue? I've only seen the grey one.

They really are fantastic birds.

We seem to be missing lots of wild birds around my home this year due to neighbors tying their barking dog in the back yard. I miss all the Herons feeding on the creek.

lol, maybe it was disappointed that you left. :)

Probably a good thing you spooked him. He didn't need to be on that tire! Although that did make for a lovely shot!

I just finished read a lovely book that had a lot about marsh birds in it. I think this lovely fellow made an appearance in every chapter. She refferred to him as the steady and true resident of the marsh.

They look so elegant, standing and flying.

He looks quite regal sitting on the bumper tire. And I'm quite envious of your great flight shot....and that you turned around quick enough to get it.
