Heights/CDP Theme Day

Birds on wires, poles, insulators...

November 1st is a City Daily Photo Theme Day and this month we are  featuring photos that illustrate HEIGHTS.

Starlings gather at great heights above the highways on their way south.  Looks like they enjoy each others' company - safety in numbers.

 Longer view

Actually, they were many more birds just before I took these photos but a couple of hikers scared many of them off. Well, at least I can blame the hikers since I probably would have scared them off anyway when they saw me approach with my trusty point-and-shoot. These are the brave ones.

The last time I saw that many birds sitting on a overhead wire was in a Alfred Hitchcock movie. :)

I had no idea that Starlings had so many dots on their bodies. I love the comment earlier on the birds on the wires, sure does remind me of that Hitchcock movie. Great images today!

The starlings are very social. The like to congregate together rather than spread out.

Never realized how pretty starlings were...their looks actually match the name, which I've always thought was poetic.

Starlings are amazing birds, and much more so when they gather together

Really, what would birds do without telephone polls and wires? :-)

A friendly flock of friends.

There are not so many birds around here, since the frost last week...

I always like seeing birds clustered on wires like that, seems like they are visiting one another. Great close up of the Starlings.

The starling are darling. Do you remember the movie, "Bird on a Wire"? I think the two leads fell in love and are still together although they never married. Do you remember their names? No fair going to Wikipedia! :)

Very nice! I know starlings are considered a nuisance bird, but I love their markings. Especially the immature ones. Have a great weekend!

They do like to flock together especially in the fall!
