White-breasted Nuthatch

 White-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta carolinensis)

I love these well-mannered guys!  Even in summer we  fill our peanut feeder for them - and also for red-breasted nuthatches, and downy and hairy woodpeckers.

 With a sunflower seed

This time of year white-breasted nuthatches often hang around with chickadees. There's safety in numbers plus chickadees are clever at finding where food is, which makes it easier for their nuthatch buddies.

Found a peanut

The beak seems so long relative to the size of this gorgeous little character.

Great shots of beautiful birds. I like seeing them getting some food in the snow.

I'm always amazed how they can just walk on the tips of their claws. Its back is close in color to the bluish grey of the Canadian Nuthatch here, but the rusty color is just on its underparts. Cute! I like the intrepid pose of the first bird.

I've almost always seen them travelling with little flocks of Chickadees.

I like them too, and I too have always seen them around chickadees.

We have both at our feeders and I am partial to the chickadees. I've never got a picture of either with a seed in the beak. Well caught.

I love the Nut Hatch ... mine hang with the Chicadees as well, but no need to find the food. They spend the day at my feeders and they nest in the trees on my shore. They are comical little characters and like the Chicadee, bordering on freindly. These are great pictures ... Hope your week is off to a good start.

These pictures are SO perfect! It looks like you got him to pose for you by bribing him with peanuts! He is so cute! We have a few here, and they do indeed hang out with the chickadees! I love the way they walk down the trees upside down! I have not seen one in quite awhile, so am enjoying these pictures immensely!

Fantastic shots of the Nuthatch! I'm sitting here green with envy since I have never seen one here, though I know we have them. How interesting that different species band together for safety.
