W is for Weekend Walk

There's almost nothing like a walk on a beach to soothe the spirit, I think. I enjoy the sound of the water lapping up on the beach, the sight of the sunlight reflecting off the water, the whitewind caps when the is blowing...all of it is a wonderful relaxing experience.

This water is Lake Ontario, the Great Lake between Ontario in Canada and the state of New York in the US. And this beach is on the north side of Olcott, a neat village that was big news back in its heyday a hundred years ago. Apparently it was THE place to go for the summer holidays. It hit hard times but is now making a comeback.

I like to walk this beach looking for bits of beach glass, but the water is high right now and covers most of the sand and glass so instead I looked for pretty pebbles.
Wet pebbles are always so much darker and shinier than dry ones. I was trying to catch the bubbles that rolled up with each wave but they kept popping too quickly for me. There are few bubbles here if you really look hard.
And here are some dry stones and small piece of driftwood I collect beach pebbles, a few at a time. Hey, you never know when a beautiful smooth stone will come in handy. LOL

Nothing quite like a walk on the beach. We don't have many pebbles on our local beach, mostly just sand.

Weekend walks to let all the pressures from workdays slip away.
What comes to pebbles, putting your best pebbles into glass vase might work as decoration.

First, I like how you say we are celebrating ABC Wednesday . . .

Next, your topic for W is fantastic. It is one I might have chose if I hadn't had the topics I already did on hand.

Last, to answer your question on my blog. . . Vancouver is a city steeped with history. We had the Kaiser shipyards here during the war. Many people moved here to work in the shipyards and housing was built just for them. The city grew by leaps and bounds! men went off to war and the women worked in the shipyards building the vessels. I did not live here then.

The fact that there was space on the wall of the "hill" that the railroad track went on top of and it was free to use because it beautified that area was probably the reason for the murals there -- the art work itself was all donated by artists locally. That is why it isn't finished -- more funds were needed. I bought a T shirt with part of the mural printed on it to help them with funding when they first started.

Hope that answers your query.

What a wonderful post.... I love those flat rocks. My husband and I have rock skimming contest to see how many skips we can do across the calm waters of the lake... I always lose. He is the rock skipping champ!
