P/Alphabe-Thursday

PEANUT and red-bellied woodpecker at a local conservation area

P is for PEANUT

Many birds love raw peanuts, a rich source of protein and other nutrients such as vitamins A and E, zinc ans iron.

PEANUT and bluejay

Birds with strong bills (woodpeckers, cardinals, nuthatches) like peanuts in the shell. Sometimes peanuts are eaten on the spot or taken away to be eaten later.

PEANUT and red squirrel

Aha! This "non bird" is also fond of peanuts!

Awesome photos! It amazes me to see these relatively small birds with such huge nuts securely in their beaks.

Awesome photos! I was amazed last year when I put out some pecans. They were small and quite hard-shelled. I figured the squirrels would love them, but it surprised me to see the jays hammering them open and enjoying the nut goodies!

Wonderful series, they all have their beaks and mouths full!

Actually I was aware the non-bird was fond of peanuts. But didn't know these birds also liked it so much. Lovely captures!

Great shots! Beautifully done! I didn't know peanuts were such a hit with birds. Most of the ones I see here are seed-eaters, or hawks and eagles. I wonder what a supply of peanuts might bring. . .

Must be the season, since I also spotted a neighborhood squirrel with a peanut he clearly wasn't interested in sharing with anyone, let alone me.

Fantastic shots. I am envious of the first one as I haven't managed to photograph the red-bellied woodpeckers so far this year. I spot them going up and down my trees but they move too fast for me.

We have a ton of walnut trees around our house, and I always enjoy watch the squirrels with them. Wonderful shots!

Hey Ms. T.G. ~~ I hadn't realized that woodpeckers liked peanuts in the shell. I will try scattering some close to the tree that ours works so hard in trying to find a worm.

Your pictures are great!!!
