Bald Eagle

Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)

It's not often I see a bald eagle so even though the light wasn't good - the sky looks bluish here but behind me to the south, thick clouds were nearly obscuring the sun - I was tempted to try to capture this regal bird hunting over Lake Simcoe.

I kept hoping it would fly a lot, LOT closer...and it almost did, but instead decided to land in a tree far, far away from where I was standing.  This photo is severely cropped which makes it appear even more out of focus, but it is PROOF that I did indeed see a bald eagle last Monday.

The hunting ground (water) below

The eagle was hunting for water fowl. It flew low but many of the birds scattered. While I was there the hunter didn't catch anything.

There's nothing greater for a bird lover than spotting a soaring Eagle in the sky.
You captured the Eagle in flight perfectly, CG.

What a beauty!

I have never seen one in the wild. Golden eagles, yes... but not these ones.

In flight it looks majestic.

Lately, I have only caught glimpses of bald eagles while I've been riding my bike on the C&O Canal, which can make bird watching a particularly hazardous enterprise.

Awesome! We didn't get out to the river to see the eagles this year and I wish we had.

Lots of snowy owls in Maine this year, they say.

Beautiful! We have bald eagles in our area, their nests usually high up above the rivers. We see them often, but no matter how often, they seem so majestic. I never tire of them. They amazing creatures!

A Bald Eagle is a fantastic sighting. I can't imagine living so close to places where Bald (or any) Eagle hang out.

How exciting! I tried to get a good view of the ones that were nesting in RBG, but wasn't successful, and now they have gone.

It's so exciting to see them and so difficult to photograph them. I think you did a good job on this one.

We have an eagle family that raises its young on a lake near us. It always thrills me to see them.

This morning I was happy to catch a roadrunner under my feeder... that is, until I found out what they eat...

What a catch, EG! I've never seen one up here - saw some in the Everglades one year and was so impressed with the size of them.
