Red-breasted Merganser 2

 Red-breasted merganser

Also known as fish ducks as that's their main food, this red-breasted merganser was with a small flock swimming in the harbour at Olcott, New York last week.

Longtail and merganser taking off

One female longtail duck was with the fishing mergansers  and it even took of for the far end of the harbour when the mergansers did.

I am linking with Saturday Critters HERE.

A couple of birds that we're familiar with in this country, though Long-tails are usually distant specks bobbing about on the North Sea. Nice to see them close-up and that punk-rocker Merganser too.

that´s quite a red bill the merganser has. :)

With such a long bill the merganser must be quite good at catching fish.

I am sorry, but my first thought was 'bad hair day', then followed the but it's a great capture thought.
