Yes - opal! Perfect description. It would be a nice synchronicity if that were the birthstone for January, but I don't think it is. I think Opal is in the fall? Great capture!

Gorgeous! In no way do I want to minimize your skill, because you did 'see' the picture, but it would be hard to take a bad photo of that scene.

I've got to try your layers trick with Photoshop Elements while I'm thinking of it!
