This very shy Eastern Tiger Swallowtail was eager to drink milkweed nectar, but not at all interested in posing for a photo. I took one photo, then moved in to try to get the butterfly from the other side and poof! he was gone.

And further down the path by the pond, a third Eastern Tiger Swallowtail flew back and forth over the shoreline. Do you think he'd stop for a photo op? No way!

Nice photos of a beautiful butterfly.
They feed on butterfly bushes here but will feed from many other flowers if they are available.
We usually have them here but it might be a bit too early as none have shown up. We usually have them and Black Swallowtails, and Monarchs and sometimes Zebra Swallowtails.
Oh I love butterflies! I think that first shot is fantastic...he's hiding a little but still a wonderful shot!!!
That is a fantastic shot.
Naughty swallowtail.... little did he know that his portrait would be viewd all over the world!
Wow, great shots. We do not see too many butterflies here as I think it is too cold and wet for them.
Nice shots of the butterfly. Most of mine I end up deleting because they are no good. They are certainly hard to catch.
That is a beautiful, ethereal shot. I'm glad we don't get poison ivy here!
EG, incredible shot that first one! Could win ANY photo contest! :)
I, too, find that butterflies are extremely camera shy.
Now these are perfect beauties!
Beautiful colors, lush vegetation - great photo.
