Lock/ Photo Hunter
This week's Photo Hunter challenge: Lock
Peterborough's hydraulic lift locks are on the Trent-Severn Waterway, 386 kilometres that link central Ontario's "cottage country."
Yep, that's snow. This photo was taken in January, so the lift locks were closed. The locks are open from May through October.

Wow, that is an impressive looking lock. Great photos!
I am fascinated with locks.
Ah, home sweet home. I'll be there in a couple of weeks. Perhaps I'll have to take a summer photo of it for a "Sudbury (MA)DP on the Road" series.
Fascinating! I've never seen locks and in the portal, I thought your first photo was a castle.
Great choice for the prompt!
Wow that's a humongous lock. I went with a canal lock but mine is small compared to that.
This is an impressive lock!
Wonderful shots!
Have a great weekend :)
Anna
I've never seen such a lock before. I agree with Hilda. In the first photo it looks definitely like a castle or fortress.
I love locks...love sitting by them on sunny days and watching the boats go up and down. There's an amazing lock in Scotland called the Falkirk wheel...have you seen it?

WOW! Look at that view and snow too! I am in heaven!!!!!!!!!!
Striking! I was wondering about the snow. Superb photography!
What a beautiful choice EG. I'd love to see this!

Majestic structures you have found! The low sun enhanced the edges and lines very well.
Thge first lock of its kind I have seen today. Impressive.
shot of the lock. An impressive and attractive piece of engineering! Happy weekend
Lock that in for Lock of the week.
Wow! I had no idea that locks could be so tall and grand! Fantastic images!
Wow... that is amazing! Very intimidating. A great shot for this week's theme.
Fascinating Locks.
To day most people are not aware the importantence of Locks regarding the development of modern society and trade, long before the railways and cars.
In the beginning the canal-vessels were driven by horses, from paths on land. Even through tunnels.
So these actually mechanically lift the boats up rather than letting an inflow of water do the work? Great shot for this week! Mine is up here.
How interesting! I agree with Denise who said this is an impressive-looking lock. Indeed!
Yes, it does look similar to a castle.

These photos are great! I like the perspective you got on the second picture. The snow only makes it more interesting.
That is the Chicken,
What a great URL you passed on to us! I need - yes, NEED - to go there to see it in person!
I never thought of these locks, and I am an English teacher.
Thanks.
